Ethics and Academic Integrity
Respect for academic, scientific, and professional ethics is a fundamental principle in the activity of doctoral students within the Doctoral School of Automatic Control and Computers. SD-AC, together with doctoral supervisors, supports research integrity, the originality of results, and compliance with standards of good academic conduct.
General Principles
Research topics within SD-AC are aligned with the supervisor’s areas of expertise.
SD-AC, together with the doctoral supervisor, has the obligation to inform the doctoral student about scientific, professional, and university ethics and to verify compliance with them, including: compliance with ethical provisions throughout the doctoral research process; compliance with ethical provisions in the writing of the doctoral thesis.
In doctoral theses and research reports, documentary sources, data, and previously existing results used within the research topics must be cited correctly, in accordance with the methodological standards accepted in the field. The source of ideas or texts that are quoted, paraphrased, translated, or processed in any way must be indicated without exception in the text, footnotes, and/or bibliography.
Research involving specific ethical considerations (such as research including human subjects, animals, etc.) must be accompanied by appropriate justifications and approvals.
The use of generative technological tools or any other type of artificial intelligence method in writing the doctoral thesis, research reports, or publications of any kind is recommended to be avoided. Texts generated with artificial intelligence tools or techniques may be used in the thesis only for the purpose of illustrating research results, in which case the tools used for generation must be explicitly mentioned and their use clearly justified by explaining the rationale and necessity. Text sequences obtained using generative technological tools must be treated in the same way as texts written by other authors with regard to citation (the source that generated the text must be specified, the text must be placed in quotation marks, etc.). The use of these techniques or tools for other purposes in the writing of the thesis is not permitted.
The clear contribution of the doctoral student and of the other persons involved must be stated for all results of any kind submitted for evaluation, accepted for publication, or published.
All aspects mentioned in the legislation in force regarding plagiarism, self-plagiarism, falsification of data, methods, results, and other related matters must be taken into account.
Violations and Measures
All violations of academic, scientific, or professional ethics and integrity identified at SD-AC level are handled in accordance with the provisions of the POLITEHNICA Bucharest Charter and together with the ethics committees authorized for this purpose. SD-AC and IOSUD take measures to prevent and sanction violations of scientific, professional, and university ethics standards, in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of POLITEHNICA Bucharest.
In the event of academic fraud, violations of university ethics, or breaches of good conduct in scientific research, including plagiarism, the doctoral student and the doctoral supervisor are held responsible, as applicable, jointly or individually under the law. The doctoral supervisor must exercise due diligence in verifying the compliance of doctoral theses with the requirements specific to original work. The doctoral student is responsible for the originality of the doctoral thesis.
Respect for academic, scientific, and professional ethics is essential for carrying out doctoral research activities with integrity, responsibility, and originality.
