Curriculum

The doctoral program within SD-AC is carried out according to a doctoral curriculum specific to the two fields: [DSUD CTI Curriculum] and [DSUD IS Curriculum].
According to this curriculum, doctoral students complete the two complementary cycles of the doctoral training program: 1. the Advanced Training Program (PPA) and 2. the Scientific Research Program (PCS).

1.

Advanced Training Program (PPA, 30 ECTS)

completed during the first 3 months after enrollment and consisting of three general courses and two specialized courses, as follows:

a. General courses (14 ECTS):

are organized at IOSUD – POLITEHNICA BUCHAREST level and focus on doctoral students’ training in scientific research: Ethics and Responsibility in Research (6 ECTS), Research Methodology and Scientific Authorship (4 ECTS) and Project Management (4 ECTS).

b. Specialized courses (16 ECTS, 2 courses, 8 ECTS each):

  • Their curriculum is prepared by the doctoral supervisor and endorsed by the CSD, according to the following template [link].
  • The doctoral supervisor proposes the topics for two specialized courses within the Advanced University Studies Training Program (PPA), which will be endorsed by the CSD and included annually in the curriculum. These courses may be:
    • a course created by the doctoral supervisor for a doctoral research field that they coordinate within SD-AC and teach to doctoral students;
    • a course from the master’s programs of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers or other faculties within POLITEHNICA Bucharest, or from other faculties in Romania or abroad;
    • a compact course module included in the master’s programs of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers or other faculties within POLITEHNICA Bucharest, as well as other universities in Romania or abroad;
    • an individual specialized study: analysis of scientific articles, specialized study, scientific communications, monograph chapters, and patents recommended by the doctoral supervisor to the doctoral student.
  • Doctoral students are evaluated using the grades “Very Good”, “Good”, “Satisfactory”, or “Unsatisfactory”, which will be recorded in a grade sheet according to the following template [link]. The course is considered passed and the student is declared Admitted if they receive either “Very Good” or “Good”.
  • Credits obtained in a research master’s program, previous doctoral training periods, or scientific research internships carried out in Romania or abroad, at universities or prestigious research and development institutions, may be recognized as equivalent upon the proposal of the doctoral supervisor and with CSD approval.
Credit equivalence
The ECTS credits obtained may be converted into the grades “Very Good”, “Good”, “Satisfactory”, or “Unsatisfactory” and recorded in the grade sheet, according to the following template [link].
Completion certificate
After completing the Advanced Training Program, the doctoral student may request a completion certificate stating the grade obtained, according to the following template [link].
2.

Scientific Research Program (PCS, 120 ECTS)

carried out by the doctoral student through 7 progress research reports, has as its main objective the preparation of the doctoral thesis and the development of professional and transversal skills, and is evaluated through seven research reports presented before the advisory and academic integrity committee as follows:

1
Report 1 – in Year I, 6 months after completing the PPA, in the form of a doctoral research project that must include: the title of the doctoral thesis, the main outline of the future thesis, the state of knowledge in the field, the objectives of the study, the intended research methodology, the schedule of planned activities, etc.
2
Report 2 – semester progress, Year II.
3
Report 3 – semester progress, Year II.
4
Report 4 – semester progress, Year III.
5
Report 5 – semester progress, Year III.
6
Report 6 – semester progress, Year IV, Semester I.

Final report – the doctoral thesis, submitted for review to the advisory and academic integrity committee in order to obtain approval for the public defense, at the end of Year IV.

Research reports

are presented before the doctoral supervisor and the members of the Advisory and Academic Integrity Committee.

Their presentation may be public. The doctoral student receives one of the grades “Very Good”, “Good”, “Satisfactory”, or “Unsatisfactory”, which are recorded in the grade sheets according to the following template [link]. The report is considered Passed if the doctoral student receives one of the grades “Very Good”, “Good”, or “Satisfactory”.
